ABSTRACT

Objective:To evaluate the effect of general anesthesia on microelectrode recording (MER) during deep brain stimulation (DBS) of subthalamic nucleus (STN) in the patients with primary Parkinson′s disease (PD).Methods:Forty-four patients of both sexes with primary PD (duration of disease ≥ 5 yr and/or obvious symptom fluctuation), undergoing bilateral STN DBS from March 2008 to March 2018, aged<80 yr, were selected and divided into 2 groups by a random number table method: awake group ( n=26) and general anesthesia group ( n=18). In awake group, 0.5% ropivacaine was used for incision infiltration at skin incision.Patients in GA group received propofol and remifentanil by target-controlled infusion with Narcotrend to monitor the depth of anesthesia, and 0.5% ropivacaine was used for incision infiltration at skin incision. The total number of trajectories and length of STN were recorded during MER.Movement disorders were evaluated at 1 week before surgery and 6 months after surgery, and the improvement rate of dyskinesia was calculated. The postoperative anesthesia-, hardware- and stimulation-related complications were recorded. Results:There were no significant differences between the two groups in the total number of trajectories, length of STN and improvement rate of postoperative movement disorders ( P>0.05). Conclusion:General anesthesia does not affect the MER during STN DBS in the patients with primary PD.

ABSTRACT

Objective T o analyse the genetic polym orphism s of 66 biallelic genetic m arkers on Y chro-m osom e in E astern C hinese H an population, and evaluate their values in forensic application. Methods G enotyping of 66 biallelic genetic m arkers on Y chrom osom e w as studied in 205 unrelated m ales of E astern C hinese H an population by m ultiplex PC R com bined m atrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization tim e-of-flight m ass spectrom etry (M A L D I-T O F-M S ). T he allele frequencies on the loci to be tested w ere calculated by direct counting m ethod, and the gene diversity (G D ) and haplotype diversity (H D ) w ere calculated by corresponding form ulas. T he haplotypes of this system w ere tested by softw are A rlequin v3.5.2.2 and the com parison of population genetics w ere analyzed. Results A total of 60 biallelic genetic m arkers on Y chrom osom e w ere polym orphic in m ales of E astern C hinese H an population, and the ranges of G D w ere from 0.0385 to 0.5019. E ighty-five different haplotypes w ere observed and the H D w as 0.9703. T he differences of partial SN P loci betw een the H an population of E astern C hina and that of X injiang and G uangdong w ere statistically significance. Conclusion Sixty biallelic genetic m arkers and the detection system can com plem entally provide genetic inform ation in kinship testing and individual identification. T he M A L D I-T O F-M S technology is able to type biallelic genetic m arkers.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the effect of palliative care on dyspnea and negative emotions in patients with lung cancer. Methods According to admission sequence, 100 lung cancer patients with dyspnea received palliative care both for 2 weeks. The differences of dyspnea and negative emotions before and after intervention were observed. Result After the intervention, the degree of dyspnea and negative emotions were significantly lower than that before (P<0.05). Conclusion The palliative care not only makes lung cancer patients physiologically and psychologically happy , but also lowers the level of anxiety and negative emotions , relieves dyspnea, and thus improves the quality of life.

ABSTRACT

This paper constructs numerical models of bioprosthetic heart valve and blood. The fluid solid interaction is carried out using penalty function method. The mechanical property of the bioprosthetic heart valve during cardiac cycle is simulated with ANSYS software. Results show that the Von Mises stress concentrates at the junction of attachment edge and coaptation edge. The open time of bioprosthetic heart valve is consistent with that of actural measurement. The peak velocity of blood is in the range of physiology. This model provides more realistic mechanical property of bioprosthetic heart valve during cardiac cycle compared to pure solid model, and facilitates design and optimization of bioprosthetic heart valve.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUNDDue to racial differences in the morphology of the knee joint and due to most prostheses available in the market being designed using measurements from Caucasians, the objective of this study was to provide the morphometric data of the patella for the southern Chinese population for total knee arthroplasty (TKA), patellar resurfacing, and prostheses design.

METHODSThe CT slices of the knee joint were obtained from both knees of 40 Chinese volunteers (20 females, 20 males, and age from 20-25 years) by performing a computer tomographic scan. A 3D model was reconstructed by Mimics software based on the computed tomography images. Six metrical characteristics were measured by digital ruler. Statistical analysis was performed with the SPSS statistical program.

RESULTSThe mean, standard deviation and P values of measurements and ratios were calculated using SPSS. All dimensions showed a significant gender difference with P < 0.05, but the six variables of the left and right knees had no statistical significance with P > 0.05. In addition, we studied the relationship between six couples (H-W, H-T, H-HAF, W-T, W-HAF, T-HAF) of the four variables (H: height, W: width, T: thickness and HAF: height of articulating facet) that were measured, which showed a significant correlation.

CONCLUSIONSExamination of the southern Chinese population revealed that males have larger patellae than women. In both genders, comparing data between left and right knees shows no statistically significant difference. Compared with Westerners in previous studies, the patella in our study was thin and small. There was a good linear regression correlation between measurements of the patella. The indirect measurement method on 3D models makes it easy to obtain anatomical data, and the results can provide a region and gender specific database for morphometric measurements of the patella, and can be helpful for designing implants suited for southern Chinese patients.

ABSTRACT

Aim To introduce an improved method of Langendorff perfusion of the isolated rat heart that is easy to determine the termination of digestion. Methods Hearts were excised quickly from anesthetized SD rats. After the perfusate was free of blood, the solution was changed to perfusion buffer(0.6% Collagenase B,0.6% BSA,30 ?mol?L-1 Ca2+ in Tyrode solution)at 37℃.Hearts were isolated by traditional and improved Langendorff perfusion.Individual myocardial cell was measured by video-based motion edge-detection system(IonOptix,USA).Results One group of heart was digested by traditional Langendorff perfusion for 13~16 min.The termination of digestion could not be judged properly by this method. The nature and quality of the cardiocytes were various. The cardiocytes could not keep their survival and viability when exposed to Tyrode Solution with 1.8 mmol?L-1 Ca2+.Another group was digested by improved Langendorff perfusion.More than 80% survival cardiac ventricle myocytes could be obtained by improved Langendorff perfusion. Moreover, about 50% cardiac myocytes exposed to Tyrode solution with 1.8 mmol?L-1 Ca2+ could retain rod-shaped and be used to contraction research. The contraction of cardiocyte was stabile within 1 000 s.Conclusion Cardiac myocytes disassociated from improved Langendorff perfusion can be used in these studies of detecting contraction and relaxation. This method is economical and easy to control. The beginners are able to acquire the technological method over a short-term practice.
